A creative journey that started with one small idea—and turned into something so much bigger.
I taught myself to crochet when my daughter was just six months old, with one simple goal in mind—I wanted to make her a doll. What started as a small idea quickly turned into something so much bigger than I ever expected.
At the time, I was navigating life as a working mom, balancing a full-time career with raising two little ones. Like a lot of moms, I needed something that felt like mine—something creative, something grounding, something I could turn to at the end of a long day. Crochet became that space for me.
From the very first day I picked up a hook, I haven’t been able to put it down.
What started as a personal outlet quickly grew into a true passion. I fell in love with the process of creating—watching something come to life stitch by stitch—but even more than that, I found myself drawn to designing. Not just following patterns, but building something original from scratch and bringing ideas to life that didn’t already exist.
While I love making plushies, my heart is really in the patterns—the designing, the problem-solving, and the creativity behind every piece. I want to create designs that feel unique, approachable, and fun to make, whether you’re just starting out or have been crocheting for years.
Somewhere along the way, this creativity became contagious. “Dada Gray,” as we call him, found his own creative outlet through resin and mixed media art, and now runs Gray Matter Works. His pieces are part of this world too, and you’ll find some of his work featured here alongside mine.
Mama Gray Crochet was built in the middle of real life—between work, kids, late nights, and early mornings. It’s not perfect, it’s not always quiet, and it’s definitely not slow—but it’s mine.
This space is a reflection of that journey: creativity, chaos, growth, and a whole lot of passion.
Whether you’re here to make something of your own or to bring home a finished piece, I’m so glad you’re here.
Thank you for supporting something built with love, late nights, and a whole lot of determination.
